Crunchyroll finally posts their summer lineup
It's here. And they're only carrying two shows I have any interest in: Campione and Dakara Boku wa, H ga Dekinai.
Sea Slugs said that Dakara Boku began today, but Crunchyroll doesn't have the first episode up yet.
UPDATE: Actually three; they're also running Ambition of Oda Nobunaga -- but I don't anticipate watching more than one episode of that.
UPDATE: They have Sword Art too. I missed it.

Was hoping on some streams for Dog Days`. Guess I'll just have to wait on fansubs, haha.
In other news, how does Sengoku Collection end up with a 2 cours run? That's one of those "seriously?!?" moments.

Koi to Senkyo to Chocolate -- ep 1
Some shows begin with a major mood whiplash. This is one of them.

I liked the art, but my feelings for the quality of the series kept dropping as we went through. I do feel like this will descend into a dark harem series but I don't know. I wasn't getting good vibes for future potential.
But I like to do the 3 episode test, at least (I normally stick around for 4-6 though). Hopefully I'm wrong, as I like good content. I just hope I am.

There seems to be a trend to "after the cliched ending point of most series" lately. It's actually appreciated, as while triumph is a great story arc, there's always a lot of interesting things you can do after you "win". Plus, it forces the writers to skip over violently killing off characters for just emotional death scene reasons.
I'll get to this tonight, as I was hoping for a different sub group covering this, but not seeing much on that front yet.

Mangajin
Some of you might find this useful: Mangajin
Mangajin was created in the early 90's as a monthly English publication for students of the Japanese language. Unlike most text books that focused solely on teaching people Japanese through boring text, Mangajin was different in that it focused on showing readers a page of manga and then a page of English translations. As great of an idea that this sounds today, it didn't catch on in the 90's and Mangajin ended in 1996. Now manga in America is as popular as ever, which is why I have decided to put Mangajin onto this web site. Fans of Japanese manga and who are looking to learn Japanese will undoubtedly find Mangajin very useful!

Hey! I
remember Mangajin!
I used to get it from the big bookstores by the places I worked in the 90s--and then from the comic store I got my manga from after I started collecting manga.
That's where I learned about
Yawara!,
OL Shinkaron,
Maison Ikkoku, and a bunch of others.
Thanks for that link. I know where my weekend is going!

I remember it too, and still have a lot of the issues. Even after the paper magazine ceased, the publishers kept the website going for a few years, selling back issues and Japanese products they'd reviewed (like Jikan de Gozeru, an alarm clock shaped like a monkey).

I'm a lot more optimistic about this season after reading Sea Slugs and THAT. There's half a dozen shows I'm interested in now, and probably at least three that I'll follow all the way through.

Same thing here, every season. In fact I never have enough time to watch everything I would like.

I was not very optimistic about the summer anime season when the list of titles initially came out, but despite a lot of people's negative comments about it, I have been getting excited for Sword Art Online, which looks a lot more promising on second glance. The franchise seems to have a fairly devoted following in the English speaking world, because it is one of the few light novels series where the English translations are caught up with the volumes released in Japan. I found the novels to be very enjoyable reads, and the writer seem to have put a lot of thought into the details and background, as well as the story. If A-1 Pictures can keep fairly well with the light novels and not get too ambitious in trying to sequeeze more the plots from the novels into 24 episodes, I would seriously consider endorsing it as the best of the year. And maybe Aniplex can license it for US release.

After skimming the preview write-ups, a question came to mind: Are any Japanese freaking out over the whole "end of the current Mayan calendar" thing, or it is just Western nuts that are into it?
I do not recall seeing any mention of the Mayans in any of the anime I've watched, but then I don't watch very many each year...

I don't think it's a very big thing over there.
That kind of stuff did show up in Keroro Gunsou now and again. The third movie begins with a trip by Fuyuki and the frogs to Macchu Picchu, for instance. (Which is Incan, not Mayan.) Partly that's because of Fuyuki's obsession with the occult. And partly it's because a lot of "ancient astronaut" visits to Earth were from Keron, and they left all kinds of artifacts behind which Keroro thinks might help with his invasion.
Movie 5 was on Easter Island. And Movie 4 included a visit to Mont Saint-Michel, which turned out to have unusual properties.
It wouldn't surprise me if somewhere in the KG canon they had gone to Central America to visit a Mayan site of some kind. Likewise it wouldn't surprise me if the Egyptian Pyramids were in the show.

I have never been able to hear the name "Macchu Picchu" without wincing since Dr. Heinous committed the atrocity "Macchu Pika-chu" in my hearing. Truly a crime against humanity and Pokemon everywhere.
Think of the children, Dr. Heinous, think of the children!!

This has the feel of
Haiyore! Nyaruko-san with much more of the mood whip-saw. Like you, I'm going to give it a shot, but yeah, if there are too many drastic mood swings I'm not going to bother.

Seasonal fire hazard
As usual, all the local pyros are making loud noises. I always worry that someone's going to burn down the neighborhood, but not so much this year. It's been cold and wet all spring and all this week. Usually by July 4 the tall grass on the other side of the creek has turned brown, but right now it's green and rather unflammable. So the odd amateur skyrocket landing in it won't be causing a conflagration.

WhyNot still hasn't released the last episode of Mouretsu Pirates. I downloaded someone else's version, because there's one scene I wanted to talk about.

I did love this scene when first watching the episode. Marika & Hyakume doing their thing for planning and Schitnzer is just in the background being a complete & utter badass. And probably having a damn good time.
And look at the size of that gun, haha. Was just a great action-comedy scene.

He's wielding that gun easily, both as a firearm and as a melee weapon. I imagine that a normal human couldn't even pick it up.

When I first ran into Hi10, I went out and updated to the latest CCCP at the time, and I've been pretty good at keeping up on that. It was only maybe every five minutes I'd see one split-second flash.

Top rotation problems
We're having some cockpit problems with the top rotation right now, which should be cleared up soon. If you get a blank gray image, that's why. Sorry about this. (It's my fault.)
UPDATE: In case you're wondering, I'm trying to do an update. Here's what's getting added:
20 Ano Natsu de Matteru
60 Fairy Tail OVA
29 Goshuushou-sama Ninomiya-kun
33 High School DxD
51 Ladies versus Butlers
61 Maji de Watashi
46 Medaka Box
75 Omamori Himari
65 Shining Hearts
That will bring us to 1434 total images, including 440 new ones. That's 30%.
The flash file is updated and ready to go. The only thing going on now is getting all the new images uploaded, and Pixy and I had a misunderstanding about where they were supposed to go. Which was my fault. (flogging self)
Once that's all straightened out, I'll upload the new flash file, and you'll start seeing new images. You'll also be able to tell by hovering over the upper left corner. The new flash is version 23.
UPDATE: The new flash has been uploaded. You should dump your browser cache to make sure you get the new version.
Also, in my brief testing, the "Ladies versus Butlers" images aren't loading. I'm checking into that.
Ah, heck. Maji de Watashi isn't working, either.
UPDATE: OK, another version of the flash uploaded (remember to dump your browser cache) and now everything should work.
UPDATE: By the way, it wouldn't be very surprising if you see new images from the series which were already in the rotation.
