There's going to be a live action version of Maria-sama ga Miteru.

If you want my opinion, this is the stupidest idea since the live action version of Negima.

UPDATE: May as well make this a "linky" post. THAT has their preview of summer 2010, and they've included several shows which weren't in the other one.

A couple of days ago I downloaded and watched the teaser for High School of the Dead. I had two "No, my disbelief won't suspend that far" moments when watching it. One was when a girl took on a zombie using a bokke, a wooden practice sword.

The other was the simple fact that all these kids were hanging around at their high school during the zombie apocalypse, wearing school uniforms. Wouldn't heavy jeans and jackets be more reasonable? better protection? Lord knows I'm as big a fan of seifuku as the next otaku, but they're really, really not practical during the zombie apocalypse.

And in any case, wouldn't they be better off heading for the hills? Why stay at the high school? (So it can be called "High School of the Dead", silly!)

UPDATE: There will be a second series of Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu. Is this good news? Damned if I know. I only watched one episode of it.

UPDATE: Pete, something can be done better without being done well. And something can be done well without being worthwhile. (J.C. Staff really did a pretty good job on the animation of Eiken, but it's still trash.)

James says, "Arcane? You don't know arcane!" In response to my post a couple of days ago (he links it, and I'm lazy) he says that the rules regarding carrying his pistol on a jet are simple by comparison to the laws in Ohio that apply to him walking around the city he lives in.

James recently accepted payola got a free trip to a gun training camp in Virginia. Today he has a post about what he had to do in order to take one of his pistols, plus a reasonable amount of ammunition for it, along with him on the jet.

The rules seem arcane, almost like they're intended to maximize the opportunity for the airline to seize firearms out of checked luggage.

1 I'm fairly well hooked in to the gun crank community and haven't heard of any airline initiated seizures... yet. I have had ignorant TSA & airline staff try to get me to do illegal acts but when confronted back down. 37 states now "allow" a "right" so I'm much more comfy driving to where I need to be and just not going to those states that are unconstitutional in their actions.

2 Last time I flew with a firearm was pre-9/11, and when I opened the case so it could be tagged, the women behind the counter said, "ooh, pretty". Thompson/Center Contender FTW.

4 Serious (but not serious) target shooting, and also popular for hunting, due to interchangeable barrels ranging from puny little pebble-shooters up through rifle calibers. I've shot .30-30 and .223 Remington out of mine, but the heavy-duty model will handle .30-06 Winchester; just thinking about that makes my hand hurt.

I can imagine that firing a high-power round out of that would be tough.

It almost looks like a modern version of a dueling pistol. And I gotta agree that it's pretty.

6 I once fired a .44 Magnum round out of a Ruger Blackhawk (wikipedia tells me it must have been a "Super Blackhawk") without knowing just how much oomph it was going to have.  I knew it was going to make big bang, obviously, but...

I imagine a .30-06 out of that thing would make my wrist and thumb hurt and my eyes water just as much.

For the record: I appreciated the chance to do it, thanked the owner for letting me try, then put the gun back in his hands and never, ever, thought about firing a second round.  I'm thinking there were a lot of people snickering behind my back while I was lining up the shot...
