Series I'll never watch 2: Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro-chan

In maybe 20 years, a genius will invent immortality for humans. Because he's a perv, one side effect of it is that all female humans stop aging at physical age 12.

God doesn't like this and decides he has to perform a miracle to prevent it. He sends an angel back in time to kill said genius while he's still in high school. The assassin angel is named Dokuro-chan, and her weapon is a spiked club she calls Excalibolg.

But Dokuro-chan falls for our perv. So she studies up on how romance in our era is supposed to go, by reading mangas about tsunderes. Then she sets up those scenes -- but gets the Tsun-tsun part rather wrong. After making it so that Perv walks in on her while she's dressing, or trips and falls on her, or all those other classic moldy things like that, she proceeds to horribly and brutally murder him with her club. Then she uses her magic to bring him back to life. (Presumably this also cleans up the mess and removes all the blood and body parts.)

It's based on a manga, which has been reprinted. And the covers of the later volumes rather confuse me: I thought Dokuro-chan was supposed to be a loli. How'd she get so curvy?

"Beat-to-death Angel Dokuro" is the five-bladed razor of tsundere shows, and I want nothing to do with the thing. 8 13-minute episodes is 8 too many. God help us, there's going to be a second series, beginning very soon.

Good thing I don't live in Japan. Good thing I don't have a TV. Good thing I don't speak Japanese.

Series I'll never watch 1: Maria-sama ga Miteru

I'm the guy who has bought all three seasons of UFO Princess Valkyrie plus the gawdawful OVA, so I'm hardly one to be in a good position to ask this question, but I'll ask it anyway:

Was there really any need for three seasons of Maria-sama ga Miteru? In fact, did we even need one?

I guess that's a genre that I'm not the target for: yuri angst without any fan service. What's the point?

The chins are so pointy they could be used as instruments of torture (which, come to think of it, watching this series would be for me). The skirts are calf-length. The girls are all flat. And the boys are all girls, too.

I dunno; there must be someone out there who likes this kind of thing, else they wouldn't have made so much of it. As bad as UFO Princess Valkyrie is, at least it has fan service and miko magic. (Except the OVA, which didn't even have that going for it.)

Mitsuketa!

A while back I wrote about seeing what I thought was the canonical bishounen picture, the logo pic for some show. I finally found it again. Naked androgenous guys surrounded by roses. And here's the big picture (barf alert).

The show is Yamato Nadeshiko Shichihenge, but they might as well have called it "Queer eye for the straight girl". Actually not quite; apparently it's called "The Wallflower" in English, and I think the bishies are supposed to be hetero.

Couldn't prove it by me, from looking at them. I doubt any of them shaves, for one thing.

UPDATE: How fast can a production be turned out? Ouran High School Host Club ran from April to June of 2006, and this series ran starting in October. Is it possible that this was a me-too, started after the early episodes of Ouran got a lot of fan interest?

That really seems too short, so I'm having a hard time believing it.

Bleah! Bleah! Ick!

Yuck:

When beautiful Tooru transferred to an all-boys school, he received a warm welcome...but little did he know that his new classmates had nominated him for the academy's "Princess System." The lovely campus "Princesses" must dress as girls (in frilly Gothic Lolita costumes) at school events in order to lighten the stolid masculine atmosphere. Tooru balks at first, but soon comes to realize the advantages of being a "Princess."

Eeew! Who comes up with these ideas? Who is the audience for this? I'm really not sure I want to know. Is this for the Yaoi crowd?

AnimeNFO categorizes it as "shounen ai" (boy love), which is even more bleah/ick/eew.
