Myself, I don't see the thrill. Maybe it's because I don't have a kid. (Of course, I'm the guy who still wants a Guchuko plush. But that's different; she's got an axe.)
What I wonder is if Japan will end up with the same Bronie problem, or will it even be popular with the intended audience. That's my interest in this rare animation import to Japan.

Conveniently for you, Steven, all the episodes are on Youtube!
I like the show because it's actually funny, and, like the old Bugs Bunny cartoons, are full of stuff for the kids, while actually not being too dumb for the adults. Also, it's full of references, including an anvil drop.
There's even a number of good songs, like Winter Wrap-Up and Babs Seed.
I think in Season 3 they let the brony thing go to their heads and went a bit overboard, but overall it's a gentle, funny show that doesn't beat you over the head with the lesson, but is just downright hilarious.

But flooding would be appropriate a Titantic-theme...

Okay, glad to hear that MX is finally airing eps 11/12.
The next big question is whether or not they got the green-light for a second season? And will some of the girls get better tanks...? I wouldn't wish a Type 89B on anybody (and the volleyball gals deserve better).
As to the headline... hmm... I suspect a Puckish attempt at humor.

"The War on Drugs got a much needed shot in the arm today...." I still remember that one from a Philly Newscaster a couple of decades ago.

Here's a related screencap from Joshiraku (no Framers unfortunately):

What with the flag being behind them, I wonder what they're all looking at so raptly?

They are looking at the audience. Joshiraku is an anime about rakugo performers (a bizzaro comedy actually). Often the audience is inside the anime, but some of the comedy routine is directed straight at the 4th wall.

I don't understand the comic; can someone explain it to me, please?

Anyway, Cthulhu is one of the horrors, the elder gods, the mere contemplation of which is supposed to bring insanity.
It says here. If you've been reading Lovecraft.
Obviously people will make fun of that, and it's become something of a meme. For instance, you can get a Cthulhu plush. Perfect gift for the baby in your life.
And someone did a flash animation called "Cutethulhu" which, if you're going to watch, you should watch all the way to the end.
So the meme is to try to put Cthulhu into any kind of place where he obviously doesn't belong.
By the way, I'm convinced that... spoiler about the web comic "Freefall"
Sam Starfall is actually Cthulhu, or at least that he looks just like Cthulhu, if he takes off the suit he's wearing.

By the way, you get bonus points for mixing the Cthulhu meme with another meme (e.g. Dr. Who), and even more bonus points for managing a pun. So this one is a three-fer.
