Crowd funding for the win
Don points to an idiotic advertisement in the Hollywood Reporter which essentially advocates censorship. Even though I don't smoke and have no intention of starting and don't want kids to smoke, I don't think censorship is the answer. Censorship is a bad thing.
Apparently censorship of movies is a big thing in the UK, and a guy named Charlie Lyne got tired of it. The BBFC (the censors) have committed to watching every minute of every film submitted to them, so Lyne raised about 6000 pounds with a kickstarter to create a 10 hour movie of paint drying. Which he has now submitted for certification.
This, of course, is a truly masterful troll.

Ah, the BBFC. British censors are also responsible for some anime titles never seeing a domestic release in the United Kingdom, while raising the cost of doing business in a niche market for products that are approved.

Yeah, it's not just the idiocy of the entire thing, but the paperwork and resulting delays. Of course things might have improved a little in the last few years, but I had to ship them VHS tapes of stuff to see if they'd approve it, in a market that's already pretty marginal to begin with...

I was going to make a joke about it being nominated for an Oscar, since it was white paint, but someone at the original site beat me to it. Dammit.

Of course, I can see the possible/probable response by the BBFC - citing Mr. Lyne for abusing the administrative process and treating the process with a lack of required respect (Granted, the process deserves no respect, but the more irrelevant the bureaucracy, the more fixated on respect and dignity of their position they become...).

Metanorn Winter 2016 preview
Here it is.
UPDATE: They say that Oshiete! Galko-chan is a short. That makes a lot more sense; it's a really threadbare concept for full-length episodes.

Aroduc's Winter 2016 preview
Here it is.
He says that "Kono Subarashii Sekai and so on" (Wed, Jan 13) is about panty shots and gainaxing. The skirts do seem criminally short on the one with blue hair. Maybe I should give it a one-episode look-see. It could be worth following, with the sound turned off and the subtitles disabled -- especially if it runs on AT-X.

The thing is for what they're trying to do, Konosuba succeed at it. It makes me laugh, quite a lot.

The Regard of Flight
Bill Irwin is a very talented man. He graduated from Clown College, and was one of the performers who became known as the "New Vaudevillians" along with Avner the Eccentric and The Flying Karamazov brothers, among others.
In 1982 he created a stage performance called "The Regard of Flight" and I videotaped it when it was broadcast on PBS's "Great Performances". I can't tell you how many times I watched it, but every time I did I laughed a lot. It's difficult to describe, nor would I describe it even if I could -- for much of the humor comes from the unexpected. But it's probably been 25 years since the last time, and even so I've never forgotten it.
It occurred to me this afternoon that someone might have posted it to Youtube so I took a look, and there it was! It's 45 minutes and you will not regret watching it!

The theatre person in me wants to call this "postmodern theatre", roll my eyes at it, and move on.
The part of me that likes funny things, though, punched the other guy in the face and just enjoyed himself.

How to drive Star Wars fans crazy
Step 1: point out that the droids are effectively slaves.
Step 2: Contend that Chewbacca is female, and in love with Han.
UPDATE:

There's going to be a new Munchkin addition called "StarMunchkin" and this is one of the cards. Kovalic is right in the groove, as usual.

I think #1 was a key point intended by George Lucas from the start. It seems to obvious to miss in the first movie. Then he added human slaves in the prequels. (Oddly, none of the characters seemed particularly disturbed by either sort of slavery.)

Tells you what I know. I stopped really paying much attention to games a long time ago.

#1-
I've not ever actually seen The Hidden Fortress, but apparently the droids look an awful lot like a pair of peasants from that movie. Which would imply that droids aren't *quite* slaves, but are not all that far off from it, culturally.
Which doesn't change SBD's point. I've seen some downright disturbing arguments about the matter. Most of them boiled down to "I like rooting for the heroes. I don't believe you can be a hero if you support slavery. So droids are not slavery, because [Insert every single ante-bellum slavery justification argument, virtually verbatim]."

It really is a shame that R2-D2, an otherwise excellent droid, suffers from incurable drapetomania.

After I saw the first prequel film, although Jar-Jar annoyed the hell out of me and the directing was terrible as demonstrated by the awful performances, I was excited by the plot of Anakin's fall to the Dark Side. It was so clear!
The Old Republic clearly tolerated chattel slavery of living beings, while the Empire apparently did not. Anakin was born a slave and I suspected his mother would die as one. He would be lured to overthrow the Republic as a crusade to end slavery and bring a more just order to the galaxy. It would all fall apart of course because the anti-slavery angle was just the future Emperor using him, and that would be the grand tragedy- he would succeed in ending literal slavery, but at the cost of stamping out most other forms of freedom for everyone.
Sadly, I was overestimating Lucas's plotting abilities. Instead Anakin overthrew the Old Republic because of a not-very-convincing romance. Whatever.
