I love Mouretsu Pirates. It's one of my favorite shows ever. But there's one huge thing in it that is a critical plot point, which I have never been able to fit in or understand. It's a spoiler, so it's below the fold.

WMG: According to TVTropes,
This is a "Wild Mass Guess" entry, where we pull out all the sanity stops on theorizing.
Here at Chizumatic we call it Engineer's Disease. Ready for big spoilers below the fold?

The Fairy Tail anime didn't stop at a satisfactory point; it just stopped, right in the middle of a story arc. Still, I commend them for it. The problem was that they had mostly caught up with the manga, and to proceed they'd have had to start writing their own story. And my experience in the past with shows that did that has generally been poor.
So the anime production team this time decided to take a break, after 175 episodes, and wait for the manga to get ahead a bit more. (Reportedly restarting again, soon.)
But I heard that the most recent story arc had finally finished and I was curious to know how it came out. So I went online to see.
I thought there was a bit of a ruckus a couple of years back where they were going to come down like a ton of bricks on web sites which carried manga chapters. Did I imagine that? Because MangaHere had the full run of Fairy Tail and I didn't run into any problems at all reading it. And MangaReader has it all, too.
The latest chapter is 344, which is at the beginning of a new arc. So I got comments, spoilers, below the fold.

They have hair dryers in Galette?
UPDATE: By the way, this picture is impossible.
If you look at the tower on the right, and if you assume that the top part of the tower is level, then it is impossible for the ocean behind it to be that high. Perspective doesn't permit that.
The level of the ocean at the horizon has to be at the vertical position of the "vanishing point", which is a lot lower than where they drew it. (Actually, it has to be even lower than the vanishing point, because the planet is round.)
UPDATE: Of course, this is a place where mountains float in mid-air, so maybe gravity doesn't work the same there as here. For instance, maybe the surface of the ocean isn't really level. Maybe there's a great big hump out there.

I finally got my download, so now I can take frame grabs.
Hmmm... Five girls, four beds. Hmmm....
Think Lilly and Maki (both standing) will share one? There have already been hints that there's something between them. (Lilly stole Maki's bra in ep 3, for instance.)
More likely one of them is just visiting. (Rats.)
Actually, this post is about the layout of the bridge, and I've got some pictures and discussion of it below the fold.
