What makes a good OP?

I posted a comment about that on a thread over at "Epic Win", and they turned it into a full post. It comes down to a disagreement about what the OP is primarily for.

1 I'm going to have to post something on this, but I need to get some sleep first.

Problem with that is I'm at work right now...

I agree with you, here.  One of the best OPs I've seen is the one for the Happy Lesson TV series.  It shows the characters, shows what they do, shows the relationships between the characters and also captures those characters very well.  (The few seconds of the class president looking at wedding dresses tells you absolutely everything about her).

For a bad OP, I'd say Happy Lesson...the OVA.  It's noisy, jerky, disjoined, tells you nothing and is misleading (it implies, for example, that the teachers can shoot magic from their hands).
