TVTropes black hole

The TVTropes site scares me; it seems to be a bottomless hole that can consume time of readers, and of contributors. Every once in a while I find a reference in my refers where someone has linked there to something of mine (usually my TMW about Bottle Fairies) and a new one of those popped up today:

"Everyone is Jesus in Purgatory"

Set aside a couple of hours before following that link.

UPDATE: These days I'm afraid of making contributions there. But I'm a bit surprised that in the part of that page about Harry Potter that no one pointed out that every single adult male role model Harry has in the series ends up dying violently. Surely that must mean something, wouldn't you think?

Don't ask me what, though.

UPDATE: The Brickmuppet got trapped.

UPDATE: XKCD legendarily demonstrated "the Problem with Wikipedia". The TVTropes site is even worse, and the particular article there I linked to is heavily leavened with links you'll feel obligated to follow. I wasn't kidding about the "two hour" warning.

I nucleated the Lego Genetics page. That's about all I've done, though; the ground is fairly well-plowed now. The hardest part of making a new page now is coming to grips with the fact that it's almost certainly already there, under a different (... and probably better...) name. I still see the traces of my original post.

Contributing to that Wiki seems to be a much lower stress affair than contributing to Wikipedia, by a lot.

2 I am immune to that siren call.

After all, what do you think I was doing last month, while waiting on the new animé season to start?  Pah!

3 I occasionally ( well, regularly ) dive in myself, though I usually resist the urge to follow links beyond the website itself ( aside from YouTube links where applicable ).

Following links isn't half as fun as watching a page you create expand and grow, though, as I learned with http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/DidYouJustPunchOutCthulhu.

4 You need a bigger warning about this TVTrope site thingy. I feel like my brain is melting from the information overload.

5 Curse you, Steven! [shakes fist in air] Oh, sure, you warned us, but it's your fault that I ignored you and spent two hours crawling around through the "crowning moment of awesome" section. I accept no responsibility.

6 And the sad part is, most of the examples on that page are cool, but not CMA.  It's not CMA in my book until it's the level of Sarah O'Connor, one arm broken, kicking the T1000's butt by repeatedly firing and re-cocking a pump shotgun one handed.  IIRC, off-handed, at that.

I just realized...T2  came out the year this year's graduating seniors were born.  NO wonder they don't understand CMA on that page...

7 I think anyone who lists multiple scenes for the same character in the same movie has completely missed the point of CMA. One crown at a time, please.

8 It helps that I browse them in small doses every couple of weeks or so. The problem is that those doses last about 2 hours. :/
