T6 Texan?

Harrison Ford crashed a 2-seater plane into a golf course today. He's got some cuts on his head but apparently he's not otherwise hurt much, and his passenger even less so.

All the news reports describe the plane as a "WWII era trainer". Is it a T6 Texan?

UPDATE: Here's an excellent news article about this with LOTS of pictures, including some that probably came from 4chan. (Like a giant weasel holding onto the top of the plane. No sign of a blue-and-black dress, though.) It turns out he was alone in the plane; no passenger.

His engine failed, and he put it down in the golf course in order to miss nearby trees and nearby homes. Considering that it was a dead-stick landing, and that model of plane is known to be rather unforgiving when the engine is out, various experts are praising him for how he put it down.

His worst injury is a broken pelvis. I would guess that's going to keep him out of circulation for quite a while, since he'll need something like a full-body cast. (Ouch!)

There are a bunch of pictures of the plane itself. I'm no expert but it doesn't look likely that it can be restored.

UPDATE: Not only did he not kill himself or hit any houses, he didn't even damage the golf course all that much. After they get the plane out of there, I bet the groundskeepers will have that place back to normal in two weeks, and in a month you won't even be able to tell where it happened.

1 Naw, the report said it was a ST3KR - a Ryan ST. The Texan was by North American.

2 I don't think it's a T-6. Texan is a much bigger airplane. You can tell from people in the picture that this one is perhaps 2/3 size at best. At a guess it's some kind of PT-22 or something of that nature.

3 It's definitely a PT-22 Recruit.

I sense the choice of plane is a little joke on Ford's part, since he made so much cash playing the role of Jack Ryan in two films.  At least, I like to think his choice of a Ryan aircraft was a nod to that role, because my brain is funny that way.

It also likes lima beans.

4 Someone updated that Wikipedia entry to mention Ford.

5 And now there's an edit war going on as to whether or not he should be mentioned on that page.  Those people are such incredible bikeshedders.

6 It's interesting to look at the edit history for that article, isn't it?

7 His worst injury is a broken pelvis.

Ow.  Ow ow ow ow ow ow owwwowwwowowowowow.

I hope his shooting for the new Star Wars film is finished... someone his age may never be completely right again from that injury.  Certainly his "action hero" days are over.

8 I thought when he hurt himself last year they said he was already done filming, but I might be remembering it wrong.

9 When I was about twelve, in about 1985, I was at an airshow at our local airport. We were standing fairly close to the taxiway, and there was a big Texan taxiing behind your standard Cessna (with the wings on top). As my private pilot father later explained, the Texan should steer left and right when taxiing because it's a tail-dragger and its monster engine gets in the way. As we watched, aghast, the Texan ate the tail off of the Cessna right in front of us. My old man had the presense to pull me off my stunned feet. I saw a guy leap on top of a baby carriage. Amazingly, no one was hurt by that impromptu aluminum foil factory.

11 When I flew the T-6 (SNJ, actually), we wore parachutes. But the owner, Mr. Simington, instructed me on the emergency egress, he added: "So, if anything goes wrong, jump. But I'll stay with the ship. I have put too much into this airplane."

I never had chance to sit in PT-22 like the one Mr. Ford was in.
