Strike Witches -- nopantsu

The conceit in Strike Witches that no attractive girl or woman wears pants is just too stupid to believe. It also reminded me of this.

1 Best comment over at Jason's place (which was actually on a Serikei article):

[voice=Movie Trailer Guy] “In a world without pants, only one group of girls….”

I mean, seriously...I was starting to get disturbed by all the ass shots of 14-year olds.   And then there's the shot that takes you face-first into one set of panties, as the girl flies towards the camera.

2 Even worse, most of those girls *look* like they're 10-12.  *shudder*

Not exactly what I'd consider appropriate.

To some extent they're stuck with that, because it's part of the mecha-musume esthetic.

Somewhere once, a long time ago, I saw a fan-art picture of the Battle of the Philippine Sea (aka "The Great Marianas Turkey Shoot") which was mecha-musume, with a girl as one of the American carriers (I think it was the Big E), and a girl as an American F6F Hellcat, and a girl as a Zero. The girls all looked like they were about 6 years old. (The Zero had her hands up and was being escorted into captivity by the Hellcat.)

Mecha-musume always look like lolis.

Over here, I just posted this:

I think you have to approach it with the right state of mind: it's goofy fun, completely over the top, utterly stupid. But it's still fun. I really enjoyed it.

It's a Gonzo fan-service show. But ultimately, what else could a mecha-musume show be? The idea itself is preposterous; there's no way the resulting show could be deeply meaningful. So it's to the credit of the direction team that they fully embraced the stupidity and ran with it.

I always give points for unpretentiousness.

4 ubu, BigD: never forget that to John Q. Public, practically all anime characters look like they're underage.  It has caused no end of trouble over the years, and continues to be an issue.  Hopefully Strike Witches will fly under the radar and not attract the Eye of Sauron.

5 I know; that's just a personal viewpoint.  I just don't care for seeing girls that look like pre-teens like that, even in anime.

I initially thought 'but all they are wearing is pants and a shirt!' Then realised i'd mixed up American/British english use of the word

What really bothered me was how the tails appeared though the swimsuits/pants without tearing them?

Overall, I thought it was very similar to Sky Girls but with animal ears, magic and even more nonsensical tech
