Speaking of Yoga

/images/08791.jpg

I find it a bit hard to believe that anyone could stand like that without losing their balance and falling over, but I'm willing to grant it on the assumption that it's an advanced Yoga position and that a yoga expert can do it.

On the other hand, I do not believe for a moment that anyone could get into that position without help. I don't believe anyone could raise their foot like that and catch it with their hands without someone else lifting the foot that high. No way. I don't care how good, how flexible, how strong Meme is; not gonna happen.

1 Natarajasana pose.  It's not done the way you think.

Having said that, there's no way in hell I can do any of the run-up bits involved without tearing every ligament, shredding very muscle, and shattering every bone in my body, let alone hit and hold the pose.

5 I see Olympic gymnasts do it all the time on tv.

I've heard you can see Olympic gymnasts do it all the time on tv.

I lost the ability to touch my toes when I herniated a disc and got recurring sciatic pain.  Too big of a risk to stretch that far.

6 Pretty sure I could have done that during my college gymnastics days, I was absurdly flexible. I could even do moves on the rings our Olympics prospect couldn't do.
Instructor told me to stop doing them, seems you're not supposed to do anything involving voluntarily dislocating your shoulders in gymnastics.

7 It turns out that modern yoga poses come from European calisthenics. Which is ironic, because the University of Ottawa cancelled yoga classes because of "cultural appropriation".
