Sight gags

I like sight gags when they're done well. This one is very nice, from episode 11 of Petite Princess Yucie:

Is "Hitting a watermelon with a stick while blindfolded at the beach" a trope, a tradition, or a cliche? Sure seems like it shows up in anime a lot.

1 Rarely-practiced tradition, made into a trope. Melons are expensive! ;p (This actually gets commented on in Lucky Star... anime is full of watermelon busting with a bat, but real life is not. "Waste of a good melon!")

It's like an onsen trip - they happen more often in fiction than in real life.
