Quack! Incoming!

Looks like Isaac has a date with a duck!

This isn't going to be a world-class disaster. It's only barely going to strengthen to category 1, and by the time it reaches Illinois it'll just be a big rain storm. But that's a good thing: Iowa and Illinois can certainly use the rain.

I don't think it's even going to be a significant problem on the Gulf Coast. We won't be seeing empty lots with buildings blown away; the winds just won't be that high.

If we're lucky it'll veer even further to the west, so that Kansas and Nebraska can get some of it.

1 Maybe we can get some more of those Cat 1 hurricanes?  We can really use them.

2 Unfortunately, it's too late to save the corn crop. About a month ago would have been wonderful. Say, a cat 1 hitting about Houston, then going up through Oklahoma and Kansas, would have been a world-saver for the whole corn belt. (Not that I'm wishing for disaster for Houston, you understand, but that vector would have been perfect for midwest rain.)

3 Pffffft.  I've driven home from work in a Cat 1 hurricane.  Over a high bridge, no less.

(Desperate times; I needed the job, I admit.  But I didn't appreciate that callousness at all.  Gee, I wonder why all our high tech manufacturing moved to China.)

4 Hurricane Illinois-Has-It-Too-Easy?

I'm okay with rain on Saturday.  We really do need it... we were something like seven inches in the red for July, and we're not a whole lot better for August.  The corn/soybean field behind Pond Central is lookin' awfully short this year...
