Proportionate response

One of the important aspects of terrorism as a military doctrine is that it hopes to control the tempo of combat. Terrorism is war on a shoestring, and the big danger to terrorists is that if they try to fight at the level their better armed, richer enemy can fight, they'll soon run out of everything.

All the internationalist condemnations right now of Israel for its "disproportionate response" are really attempts to get the Israelis to fight at a level low enough to be logistically sustainable for Hamas.

Because it's only fair, right? When there's a war, both sides should have an equal chance of winning. If you don't give your enemy a chance to win, then you're cheating.

(And they accuse us of thinking war is just a big game.)
