I've been having feelings of deja vu about Obama for weeks now, indeed, since before the election. For a candidate who prides himself on being about change, being something completely new, that was rather peculiar.
I now know what I was partially recognizing. It's Obama's attitude towards the office, his reason for wanting it.
He's enchanted with the pomp, the title, the fact of being in the position itself. This whole business with him creating his own candidate seal, and "the office of President Elect", for example. What it all reminds me of is Richard Nixon, who also was enchanted with the fact of holding the office, with the pomp.
It used to be a bit creepy listening to Nixon talking and using "the President" to refer to himself rather than "I" or "me". I fully expect that Obama will start talking that way, too, probably within the first six months of taking office.
