Otakon Eyewitness Report (someone else's eyes, not mine)

Anyone hear of an OVA called Koharu Biyori? In English, apparently "Indian Summer"? ANN sez:

Set in a near future, a time where robots are common workers for their owners. Takaya Murase has just purchased a maid robot from a robotic doll distriubutor, MaidWorks. Ready to live a normal cleaning, cooking, and serving life to her owner, Yui is purchased, by Takaya but he has other plans for her...like dressing her up in dress-costumes of his fantasies and more.

3 episodes of ecchi, featuring a robot girl (?) named Minori with huge boobs who wears a cowbell, two loli mikos who look to be twins, a couple of adult women who are far sexier than they probably ought to be, and our hero, a teenage otaku perv plus the robot maid he buys and treats as a cosplay model. And a loli with a dolly named Ayumi. Yikes!

That's the only new title that ADV announced at Otakon. Back at the meltdown a month ago, they said they'd have new stuff to announce this week. "Indian Summer" was it, according to Bob (of the store) who attended the con and reports about it here.

The good news: Media Blasters confirmed that they're working on Magical Witch Punie-chan which has been, for a long time, on top of my list of "titles that I really wish would be released in R1".

Oh, and they're also going to release Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro-chan. I don't think this is new info, but they confirmed it again.

In other news from Funimation, "...the 6th volume of Shuffle which will contain a set of 'God Panties' in the collectors edition." What's scary is that this isn't the first time this has been done. ADV did it for the premium release of Najica Blitz Tactics. (Of course, those weren't God Panties.)

UPDATE: Ubu Roi comes through for us with NSFW frame grabs.

1 Yeah, well, that depends on who's wearing them, doesn't it? ;p

Come to think of it... she still has my Najica DVDs.

2 Nice to see ADV isn't quite dead yet.  No word on who their partner is, I see. Must have licensed this one on their own; probably not a great competition for it, I would guess.

I remember reading a summary of Koharu Biyori when it was released a few seasons ago. It struck me as being HIMM, only with a robot girl so you don't have to feel icky about the exploitation.

Hm. I see Baka-Wolf has the first episode...

Re: Shuffle, DVD6 -- If nothing else persuaded me that it's not for me, that just did.  Besides which, shouldn't they be "Goddess Panties?"

Disturbing thoughts there...

3 I was trying hard not to go there...

4 Ok, watched it.  KoBi (?) in one word:

AIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!

You ... owe me one guys.  I ... took it... for... the team... (gasp!)

/Collapses, moaning; clawing at eyes./

(Slightly longer summary: Unholy bastardization of Mahoromatic's maid with HIMM's plot.  Except the show doesn't have one. Started to write a few more sentences, but you know what?  This show wasn't worth anything after the scream...)

Frame grabs, I wanna see frame grabs!

I'm not too surprised by your rather emphatic review. At this point ADV is in the position of having to take the titles that even Media Blasters wouldn't touch.

6 Okay, NOW I can say this must be the first time a company has licensed a title that even the fansubbers couldn't be bothered with.

7 Well, I saw Koharu Biyori (fansubbed) in its entirety and thought it was "okay" for a fan-service vehicle.  No deep plot or anything.  I don't know that it would be worth buying unless you were desperate for anime boobz0rz but I didn't hate it.  It was moderately entertaining.

Then again, I liked High School Girls.  So be warned.

8 Frame grabs?   Where do I send the bill for my emotional counseling?  Jeez. Maybe tonight.

OVA 1 was 3 ten-minute episodes.

Episode one: Takeya gets a maid robot (he names her Yui).  They must be cheap; I mean, he's well to do, based on the size of apartment and figurine collection, but he's not Yoshitaka-level by any means.  He should have listened and gotten one of the other models.  Of course she's shipped as a naked girl-in-a-box.  She throws out his figurines and then runs away when she figures out she's going to be a king-sized dress-up doll, but he convinces her to come back, because she'll be dismantled if she doesn't.

Episode two: They're out on the town.  Random people, including the miko twins, enter and leave the show. Or enter and are forgotten. T & Y  end up at the cafe of a big-breasted waitress and her father,  with a lost child in tow.   (I started fast-forwarding a bit after the miko twins showed up and sicced a tentacle monster on the waitress -- and she enjoyed it.) Dad turns out to be a  "pervert" too, only he uses his daughter for dress-up. Instantly, an epic costume battle breaks out, leaving Yui traumatized, and the waitress overworked as every otaku for miles around descends on the cafe.   Mother of lost child shows up: "Hi, I'm a beautiful young widow!" "Should that be part of your introduction?" Everyone pitches in to help serve the otaku horde.

Episode three (I'm in full fast-forward mode by now):  Yui somehow ends up babysitting a neighbor's (very male) baby.  Apparently include every bad baby joke ever; Yui's in nothing but an apron with a frilly top.  I give up when the baby reaches under the top and latches on to the appropriate place -- and Yui starts getting turned on.

There's a few FFN scenes, but less topless than you'd expect, given the rest of it.

The waitress with the cowbell is listed as one of the three top voice credits, along with the perv and the perv's robot. So presumably she shows up quite a lot.

Given that she seems to be one of the better pieces of eye candy, that can't be all bad.

Ahh, I give up.  I just thought it would be amusing for something even the fansubbers didn't want to bother doing to be licenced by some hapless R1 company.

11 I bet that Aoi and Mutsuki was never fansubbed.
