Macademi Wasshoi -- ep 2

Thanks to the kindness of strangers I just downloaded ep 2 of Macademi Wasshoi and watched it. (Sometimes you have to rely on the kindness of strangers, and thank you to my benefactor!)

I'd seen descriptions of it and frame grabs. It turned out to be better than I expected. I'm really liking this; I hope the fansub group sticks with it, and starts turning out episodes at a more regular rate.

Especially since the frame-grab blogs I read all stopped covering it. I don't understand why this series doesn't get more love.

I really like Tanarotte's voice. It's a relatively new seiyuu, and this is the first thing I've heard her in. The character is wonderful, and she sounds like she's having a blast doing the role.

But I suspect that working on a series like this, which is so utterly silly, really is fun. And the prize role -- and best performance -- is Professor Sakuma AKA Professor Perv.

It was impressive to see him utterly toast a demon in a single shot. His power level really must be amazing; she looked terrified. Of course, his reason for doing it was a bit strange; maybe that was the reason for the terror.

I like the fact that Takuto isn't powerless. He tries to fight the demon and launches a quite respectable fireball at her. But she's out of his league.

We got some back story, which helps make some things clear:

Tanarotte looks like a demon, but in fact she is not. Nor is she a god. However, with divine power of 5,000 (on whatever scale; we haven't been given any standard of comparison yet) she apparently has the potential to become either a god or a demon, and regardless of which, that would bring about exactly that unbalance.

The big question, which eventually someone is going to ask, is just how it was that Takuto was able to summon someone like her. And where did she come from? Did he create her, rather than summon her? And if so, what does that say about his power?

Certainly the authorities at the school are concerned about it all, and they're already looking into different possibilities. Professor Sagami AKA Professor Decap visited both the gods and demons to find out what they were willing to admit, and they both said they didn't know anything at all about Tanarotte.

It'll be interesting to see how this series develops. (If the fansub group doesn't take 5 years to finish it.)

Oh, did I mention that I really like Tanarotte's voice? It's awesome.

UPDATE: I'm wrong; Aroduc is still following the series.

UPDATE: Sorry; editing cockpit error fixed.

1 So am I, and I agree.  This series is hitting on so many cylinders, it's not funny. Well, it is funny.  You know what I mean. I definitely under-scored it on the first viewing.

You can keep Tanarotte; I still want that catgirl.  She's obviously pretty powerful herself, given that she ran Tanarotte ragged last episode, and fights the goddess to a standstill in this one.

And she has Kawasumi Ayako's voice, which is good for a few points. Eine, the catgirl maid, is definitely fun, especially in how utterly deadpan she is no matter what's going on.

And it's an interesting point: she definitely is amazingly strong, but so is her master; he's the one who decked the demon in one shot. Given how strong Tanarotte turns out to be, does that mean Takuto has extraordinary potential himself?

3 That aspect of the story does seem to have been overlooked so far, doesn't it?  On the other hand, this isn't a show built around logic and deliberation.

4 It's difficult to judge from just two episodes, of course, but it looks to me as if they really are trying to tell something of a story, beneath all the fan service and farce. I doubt it's a very deep story, but the question of what Tanarotte is and where she came from is clearly something they're spinning at the series level.

5 Okay, I finally watched the first episode, and a few minutes of the second.  I don't get where all this love for the show is coming from, particularly for Tanarotte.  In my world, she's just THIS short of being another Dokuro-chan on the annoying scale.
