I shoulda known

I shoulda known that Wikipedia would have an article about Sekirei. So now I can get a more full idea of what's going on.

Is it Pokemon with cute girls? Is the idea to collect all 108? Or to eliminate 107 of them? (Hope not!)

In the mean time, Aroduc is on board to watch it and post frame grabs.

UPDATE: Oh noes! Some of the Sekirei are bishounen. Ick!

Looks like the hero starts collecting a stable of sekirei, so it's also a harem show. The four shown in that picture are all part of his group.

From reading the description (which, by the way, has spoilers) it almost sounds like this is borrowing a bit from Inukami. Whether there's really anything new in this remains to be seen, but I'm doubtful. However, if the fights are decent and the girls are well drawn and it isn't totally idiotic in terms of plot, it probably will be worth watching.

Aroduc points out that this is from the same studio that did Inukami so the similarity may not be coincidence.

I think I'm hoping for something like Grenadier: a good-natured fan service romp that doesn't take itself too seriously.

UPDATE: Oh, please please please!

There was a drama CD. No indication of whether they'll use the same seiyuu for the anime, but please please please do so! Musubi was Kawasumi Ayako (previously Mahoro and Lafiel)! Tsukiumi was Tanaka Rie (previously Mariel and Sanada)! Matsu was Matsuoka Yuki (previously Glenda and Osaka)!

Please cast them again!

I can't remember which blogger it was, but I recall someone asserting that Wikipedia is the best anime info site around. Personally, given that I was already searching for anything anime/game related there first to get an overview, I agree with him. (... Probably a "him".)

I don't know much about the series other than what's on Wikipedia, but I was first exposed to it from my figure buying. Bishoujo goodness.

Um, after looking at that figurine of Musubi, I think it's time for another bucket of cold water. OMG.

But from the Wiki site, I'm getting all kinds of bad vibes. Combination of Steel Angel Kurumi and some of the worse aspects of other harem shows.  No sign that the main male gets a grip and/or does anything notable -- it's all about the girls fighting.

Author: Yes, that was the entry I was thinking about!

Well, I'm not expecting much of high art here either. I may watch it anyway, being that I'm, er, "invested" in the girls (figurines) anyway. I would be minimally satisfied if the lead simply shuts up and stays inconsequential (and out of camera) most of the time. The girls are enough. But I'm a Sister Princess fan so I'm used to that sort of thing.

5 Enh, to each his own.  As I said about Wataru, there's no way he was the #1 student in his class. With a bit more personality, he might have been the pet rock of the guy who actually was #1.

And as for Inukami, I remarked that it was for folks who liked their anime yaoi-flavored.  So this thing's pedigree isn't a recommendation, thus far.  The girls, on the other hand, most definitely are.

6 The tag line on Matsu's character page reads 「この熱い躰ー 貴方のDNAで鎮めて下さい」 = "Kono atsui karada - Anata no DNA de shizumete kudasai" = "This hot body - please calm it with your DNA".

She seems nice.

You take Musubi, I'll take Matsu.  Glasses and braids...

9 Ooooh.  I didn't see the glasses. (Maybe I need some?)

Damn, damn, damn.  Brains or boobs?  No fair making me pick!  Where's Lyar when I need her, dammit!
