Gun question

In the Obama "skeet shooting" photo that just got released, I'm curious about something: what kind of shotgun is that, and why is there a puff of smoke off to the side (or going upwards; it's hard to tell)?

1 Looks a lot like a Browning Citori Sporting over-under, left-handed version, but it could be another brand. Both barrels have gas ports, to reduce muzzle rise, although there doesn't seem to be a choke in the lower barrel for some reason.

2 Instapundit noted it was one of those eeevill semi-automatic assault shotguns. Also that it was kind of low for skeet, but it could have been sporting clays. Are those Mom jeans he's wearing?

3 I think he had that wrong. If it's really the Browning, it isn't an assault shotgun.

4 Unless I'm misreading that product page ( which I could well be ), it looks like it is a semi-automatic model.  Which, to the standard anti-gun types these days, means its an "assault weapon."

Which bears no correlation to what the term is actually supposed to mean, but hey, when has that ever stopped anyone?

5 He's making a comment about how meaningless the term "assault" has become in laws about guns. Seeing as how "assault weapons" have gone from possessing two or more cosmetic features to one or more (that don't affect the gun's operation), it's not hard to believe that the definition will be expanded eventually to all semi-automatic weapons. Feinstein's bill actually includes 12 shotguns, but not the Browning.

6 Obama's shotgun is an over-under, that is, there are two barrels, each holding one shell. You have to open it up to extract the empties, and manually insert two fresh ones to reload. Instapundit had to be kidding about the semi-auto part; it's obviously not one.

Browning has a number of semi-automatic sport shotguns as well (mine's the discontinued Gold Fusion model), but they're the manufacturer least likely to be affected by any bans; they very carefully got out of the military, police, and self-protection markets years ago, leaving only the iconic Hi-Power in limited production.

7 Metaphysician, no way that's a semi shotgun--it's an over/under double-barrel; there's no place to put a magazine, and even if there was, how would you feed both barrels?
Here's a picture of a semiauto.
