grind, grind...

I'd like to apologize for the performance yesterday and today. I have been having a lot of trouble accessing the site, getting slow responses or outright error 500 timeouts. Pixy is aware of the problem and fingers a background job which seems to be tying the server into knots.

That's how it is when you're involved in a beta. We all need to be patient.

UPDATE: No sooner do I post that then the constipation ends, and meenu is back to its old sweet swift self. I assume Pixy bagged the errant process until he can figure out what's wrong with it.

1 Yes, sorry about that!  For some reason, the background task was running slow enough that it was still going when the next scheduled task kicked in.  Which really didn't help things.

When I checked this morning (my time) there were three tasks running, and I suspect that it was more than that at some time earlier.

The job is only supposed to take 30 seconds, but is taking more than 15 minutes now, so I really need to find the problem and fix it.  In the meantime, I've scheduled it to run only once every three hours.

2 And the slowness just now was me testing it.  It's gone completely nuts.  Maybe using the wrong index...

3 Found the problem.  The import process was creating duplicate category entry records with every pass - and it was running every 15 minutes. Then it was carefully updating all those duplicate records.  After a few days, that started to add up...

It's shut down at the moment.  The fix is easy, but the cleanup is a bit harder, so it probably won't get back under way again until tomorrow.

Sorry for the delays, Chizumatic fans, but all should be well again.
