Regarding Dog Days 2, Lower Mid-Table writes:
Improbably I am still watching this. This week was just about seeing all of the cast as small children, and Cinque as an adult. I don't even understand how people can watch this anymore.
In his comments I responded:
Why keep watching? Because it's joyous and fun. There are a lot of engaging characters, and the three main ones are having the time of their lives, and NO ONE IS ANGSTY! No one! Lots of cool ki-effects, and fun stories where no one really gets hurt, and it's just very pleasant.
Besides which, Yukikaze!
What we're getting this time amounts to day-in-the-life episodes, or more like "What I did over my summer vacation". There doesn't seem to be any kind of overarching plot, and there isn't anything serious going on. To the extent that there is any kind of plot development happening, I think it has to do with Couverte growing up. The events of this visit are going to turn out to be a life-changing event for her. (I can see her changing already, and we're only just past half way.)
This show is kind of the shounen equivalent of iyashikei. Lots of battles, lots of cool energy attacks, lots of wonderful characters, lots of fan service -- and no angst. Nothing terrifying. No tension. Nobody gets hurt, physically or emotionally. It's all just fun and wonderful.
Deep down, I wish I was there. I wish I could be part of it. That's why I watch. I like the characters, and I like the situation, and it's a nice place to visit.
Why would I need anything more?

Besides which, Yukikaze!

On the technical side, the world building is really brilliant and doesn't talk down to you. While the World might be fun & games, all of the characters act logically within the World. That way, you're not slapped in the face with stupidity.
