DBKai North American release

I noticed something pretty awesome the other day: Funimation has licensed Dragon Ball Kai and is going to release it on BD.

I assume it will be dubbed. And since some of the dialogue has changed, and the whole thing is re-edited, then Funi will have to dub it again, from scratch. This'll be Chris Sabat's third pass at it. I wonder if he's getting sick of the whole thing; it's become a career.

I was rewatching some of it this morning. The original seiyuu who did Recoom died in the interim, so he's got a new voice. I really like the new one; I think it's better than the first. In the original version Recoom comes up as something of a clown. The new voice makes him more menacing -- and he should be terrifying; he's absurdly fast and strong. He takes Krilllin out with a single kick, and eventually breaks Gohan's neck. He also took everything Vegita tossed at him and wasn't affected at all.

All his weird posing and strange called attacks in the original version simply made him seem idiotic. In the new version, it makes him come off as psychotic, and that's better.

Recoom is one of the better villains in the show, even though he only lasted about three episodes (in DB Kai, anyway).

Anyway, come May, this will be the third time I've bought the series -- but it will be worth it.
