I hate the hiccups

I just thought I'd mention that.

This afternoon I got an attack, that lasted over an hour. Then I managed to make them stop. I took a nap, and after I got up, they started up again. And kept going until I started to eat dinner.

And now they've started again, and I'm posting this to try to distract myself. I think this may be the first time I've gotten hiccups since I stopped drinking, almost 20 years ago, and I'll be damned if I know what I did to deserve this.

If it's (hic) punishment for some sin, I (hic) wish I knew (hic) which sin. If (hic) you're gonna get (hic) punished for a sin, you oughta (hic) get the chance to (hic) enjoy it first.

1 I assume that your normal rules apply, and you don't want any suggestions on how to cure them?  Maybe if they don't clear up in a day or two...

2 Yes, I don't want suggestions.

3 While fascinating from a medical/neurological point of view, hiccups just are horrid.  I hope they pass quickly.

Oh, and they're punishment for enjoying the Strike Witches movie so much.  Or something.

4 A while back, a friend who was pregnant told me that babies in the womb get the hiccups, and it exercises their diaphragm muscles so that they're strong enough to breath after they're born. Her unborn baby was having hiccups at the time and she let me put my hand on her belly to feel it.

5 Very interesting, though it might explain our utter dislike for them, as well.

6 Could be worse.  I got up this morning and had a case of Reverse Peristalsis.  My throat is still so burned by stomach acid 14 hours later I can still barely swallow.

7 I used to get cases of the hiccups that would last for hours and hours, and nothing would make them go away. It's amazing how disconcerting that is. Especially after watching that anime episode (was it in Dual!?) where the 100th hiccup would kill you.. I tried all the tricks, and even ones that had worked before, such as holding your breath for a long time, stopped working. I eventually cured the problem with a diet change, it was a particular brand of ramen causing it.

8 Someone almost died of hiccups in Maburaho. One of many stupid things in that show.
