"Magical Witch Punie-chan" (aka Dai Mahou Touge) is scheduled for tomorrow, from Media Blasters. I wonder if it'll come in?
If it does, I'm putting in an order tomorrow night, because Rocket Girls has also come in.
The dry spell is almost over, and we're starting to get good stuff available again. Also on my list:
Zero no Tsukaima -- due Nov 4.
Nanoha -- due Nov 11.
The dates are estimates, not promises, but you never know. Zero no Tsukaima is Funimation and Nanoha is Bandai and they've both been pretty good about keeping schedules recently.
UPDATE: Pete links to someone that he says has already seen Dai Mahou Touge. Well, I have already seen it myself. This would be a guilt buy for me even if I didn't think it was terrific.
But the guy Pete links to seems a bit clueless. For instance: "As the series was only 4 episodes long and probably makes most of its money through DVD sales, I had expected more “fan-service†to act as an additional selling point."
It was an OVA. That means it made all of its money through DVD sales.
As to a claimed lack of fan service, that depends on how broad your definition is. No bare boobies, for sure. But when Pyun and Potaro pull off their combat henshin in ep 7, they certainly provide plenty of more tame fan service.
Besides which, how can you not love a girl whose magical transformation begins when she says, "Lyrical Tokarev, kill them all!" or whose motto is "Anything that has joints can feel pain"? Punie is a unique comedic creation.
And it has the best sports festival in animation. No contest at all on that.
UPDATE: Is this fan service?
UPDATE: Rats. It didn't come in. Well, maybe tomorrow...
UPDATE: I need to learn how to read a calendar. It was actually due tomorrow, not today.

Seriously, Louise is iconic and I want to find out why. Also I'm curious about the Tabitha character.

I think the first series was definitely the best of the three. That's not saying much. After that they got away from mixing the worlds -- one of the neat points in the first series was Saito getting his hands on the Staff of Destruction. (Don't read if you don't want to spoil the surprise)
But Louise is iconic because it's obvious to everyone but her that she's madly in love with Saito. And Saito, for whatever reason, readily admits he's in love with her. It runs against the grain of the tsundere and guy never admitting anything to each other.
Unfortuntely, Louise's is an insecure, jealous love that can't admit its own existance. I didn't watch but two episodes of the third series; it was just too painful. She was getting Jealous (w/capital J) of her best friend, the queen. Sigh.

I liked ZnT, despite all of its numerous flaws. Go figure. But I'm not quite willing to defend it, the way I am with Ai Yori Aoshi.
The ZnT light novels are quite a bit better than the anime, especially the later ones, despite the first couple being aimed at a juvenile audience. They're like the Harry Potter books in that way. I think they call that Cerebus Syndrome or something, yes?

I don't know that I would have recommended it straight up, partly because Steven hates that, and partly because it occasionally dips into angstville. But broadly speaking, it's a harem comedy with an actual hero instead of a "male lead", and that's good, right?

So did I, at first. She lost my sympathy when she decided that she was going to break Louise and Saito up to get him. The underhanded use of a love potion in the third series (of course it goes awry!) just cemented it.
I'm pulling for the queen. Royal threesomes for the win!
