Beavers -- capitulation

It looks like the county has decided to let the beavers win. The creek is down a bit, but not like it is when the dam is gone and all the backed up water drains out. Yesterday I went out to look at it.

(full size) The rains we've had apparently have eroded the top of the dam in the main channel, making a nice spillway.

There are sidewalks along both sides of the park. The one on the east, between the park and my apartment complex, is nicely elevated and has a bridge over the creek, so it's not in any danger of flooding. The other one, on the east, follows the terrain and a large section of it is under water.

In fact, it seems that the terrain there represented an escape point for the water at the level the beavers were trying to attain, and they noticed it.

(full size) So the beavers started building a dike along that area to hold the water back. That sign in the foreground is county colors, and that's why I think the county has decided to stop fighting it. What the sign says is to use the other path, on the east side.

UPDATE: While I was out there, a lady came along walking her dog. It was a chocolate lab, and the happiest, most enthusiastic dog you've ever seen. It spent a lot of time jumping into the water and splashing around in it. Between ducks and beavers I guess the smells were just too exciting for her.

Man, that dog was having a good time.

UPDATE: Sorry for yet another boring beaver post, but I don't really have anything else. Except for rewatching the first four episodes of Macademi Wasshoi I haven't really been watching anything, and even if I had, it is things I've posted about before. We're coming near the end of a slow spot; interesting things will begin coming out in maybe another month or so.

1 I actually rather enjoy the beaver posts. I've never had any personal experience with the engineers of the animal kingdom so this is all new to me.

2 Subs of Macademi Wasshoi 5 and 6 have been released.

3 So I've heard. I'm waiting for them to show up on my download site, but I have no idea at all how long that'll take.

Beautiful photos (except for that piece of garbage in the lower-right corner of the 2nd shot).

Have you seen Lucky Star? Not that I'm suggesting or anything, mind you, just asking (And I'm not being funny either!). Or Sayonara Zetsubo-sensei?
