1 Does that shotgun have a box magazine?

Searching the web, it appears to be a BB gun...

2 It's obviously a slide-action shotgun. (Or a BB gun.) Slide-action shotguns don't use a box magazine.

I like the sense of humor there.

My guess is it's a BB gun or other toy gun designed to look like a shotgun. But I might be wrong.

You're correct, slide-action shotguns don't use a box magazine. They use a tube (usually enclosed by the sliding mechanism).

The box of shells looks like the real thing...for hunting birds and small game. (Notice the bird logo on the box, as well as the Remington brand name, and the "Game Loads" description.)

I'll put the gun-geek comments under the spoiler tag, for those who are really interested...

The gun looks like a stockless, pistol-gripped shotgun with a short barrel and a pump-action mechanism. It's a design style often sold to police agencies as a riot gun. My first impression was that it looked like a Remington 870, modified for police action.

But most such guns don't have the boxy structure sticking out the bottom. The 870 (and most other pump- or slide-action shotguns) have an opening in that location for feeding ammunition into the internal magazine.

Also, the material for the entire weapon is the same. Usually, the pump and pistol-grip/stock are a different material (plastic or wood) than the barrel, the ammunition tube, and the receiver (steel, usually painted black). The different components can be the same color, but usually a texture difference is visible.

At the resolution that that picture is in, I can't tell if the slide/pump mechanism can move along the tube it is mounted on. Also, I can't see the metal rails that usually connect the sliding mechanism to the bolt inside the receiver. On a typical slide/pump-action, the rails are visible above the tube that the slide mechanism rides on.

This makes it look like the pump/slide mechanism is decorative, not functional.

The ammo is much easier to identify, partly because of the Remignton logo.

Under zoom, I see the numbers "12, 2 3/4, 1290, 1, 7 1/2" on the top of the ammunition box...If they follow the pattern normally used by shotgun-shell-manufacturers, the labels read "12 Gauge, 2 3/4-inch shells, 1290 f.p.s, 1 oz, #7 1/2 shot size".

The Gauge and shell-length are the most important number in determining whether it will work with a particular shotgun. Shell length of 2 3/4 is the most common variety, 12 is a pretty common Gauge size.

The shot-size is the number that helps determine what kind of target it will bring down. Large-numbered shot-sizes have smaller pellets; shot-sizes above 7 are generally used for sporting-clays, and can also be used for ducks and rabbits.

The "1 oz." number should be the total weight of the shot pellets in the shell. The "1290 f.p.s." is the expected muzzle-velocity when fired through a standard barrel length.

4 [fourth try] A quick search for "airsoft shotgun" says it's a Crosman Stinger.

[hmmm, my attempt to post a link to Google Image Search results seems to have landed me in a moderation trap. Does logging back in clear it?]

5 Pixy? What happened to J?

6 What I did was hit the preview button to make sure the link worked, which said that my message was being held for moderation. Then when I changed the link, it insisted that I had to be logged in to post (even though the "Hello J Greely, you are logged in to Minx" text was still at the bottom of the page). Retry, same result.

So I logged back in, and it was happy.

7 Okay, that's a little weird.  Not sure how to even reproduce that one.

8 The slide action is just the means by which ammo is introduced to the chamber.  In this particular case my non-educated observation would be that there is less ammo to be had in the magazine than in the tube, thus making it pointless.  A magazine fed pump action would obviate issues involving the shape of the projectile, granted a moot point in shotguns but I could see a point to be made re ammo supply.  You're not going to have a 20rd tube mag on a 12 gauge, but with a box mag?  After all, if you're dealing zombies, more bang is better, nicht wahr?

And btw, yer SdB'ness, having followed a number of your recommendations in the past as to anime I can only say that while I would have never considered that I'd be entertained suitably by cartoons featuring teen babes in the past, well, I sit corrected.  I was deeply depressed when the USS Clueless tied up at the wharf, but I take your point.
