I'm an old man...

I keep running into references that I'm not sure young people would even understand.

Here's one: I wonder how many 16 year olds know what "carbon paper" is, and what it was used for?

Or the fact that "cc:" stands for "carbon copy:", and what that means?

I bet most don't know. Me, I've used the stuff, which makes me a dinosaur.

2 I would have figured it was special-order these days. I can't imagine that a place like yours would stock it routinely.

4 I have a stack of records, but my new amp doesn't have Phono inputs, I'd need a pre-amp.

Picture one of today's kids confronted with a) a payphone b) with a rotary dial. They wouldn't know how to make a call!

5 How many 16-year-olds know what a floppy disk is?  The iMac, which made a splash for doing away with the floppy drive, was introduced 16 years ago.

6 If you don't know what carbon paper is, this pretty well sums it up:

It's used by the Art department, actually.  Makes it simple to transfer a sketch to a linoblock for printmaking purposes.

Once upon a time, within the last two years, I used the term 'CRPG' at the Fandom Post - and immediately received a query about the acronym because the member did not know what it stood for.

I feel VERY old....

(I used manual typewriters and changed their ribbons.  Had used parallel cables to connect my printer to my 486.  Remembered when 'disk-swapping' meant changing out the floppy disk from your disk drive while you were PLAYING the game.  Actually used a top-loading VCR with a wired remote.  Still own a Nintendo Game-And-Watch.  Could recall a time when Tom Cruise was still sane...)

These days, university stores are also the main places to buy photographic film (Especially if you are trying to shoot black and white photos.).

12 I had my son and some of his friends over and showed them the movie  Airplane!. They thought it was a scream, but I had to bring them up to speed on such things as Mission Impossible, Kareem Abdul Jabbar and the LA Lakers, Saturday Night Fever, the Barbary Coast, the singing nun, jive talking, Barbara Billingsly, Knute Rockne, All American, Sea Hunt....

It was easier when I showed them Kentucky Fried Movie a few weeks ago.

13 Carbon paper makes it easy to count a roll of coins without opening it up.  Just smack the roll lengthwise on the carbon and count the number of coin edges that you see on the copy.

14 Guess I was lucky then cuz I did got to use carbon copy several times.
