To Aru Kagaku no Railgun -- ep 15

So I've finished ep 14 and now I'm beginning to watch the episodes I haven't seen.

First surprise is that they changed the OP. I really liked the music for the first OP. This one is a lot less interesting.

The visuals in the new OP are something of a surprise, though. Re the two Antiskill ladies involved in some sort of street battle, it's always nice to see animators who know a bit about weapons. They show Yomikawa firing off bursts rather than firing continuously. Modern combat rifles have a setting where each trigger tap fires three rounds, and that's what she was using.

I do wonder how much of that was foreshadowing as opposed to creative license. Mikoto is shown falling off the top of a building, for example. Is there really going to be something like that? I guess I'll find out.

Kongou shows up again at the beginning of this episode, and is about to  use her power, only to have it fail on her. Later dialog confirms that she's level 4, and her behavior before that point makes clear that her power is combat-worthy, since she seemed ready to take on a gang of low-life (low-power) thugs. Still no indication of what it is, though.

UPDATE: I didn't particularly care for the first ED, and this one is even worse.

Another "I didn't realize". I didn't realize that Konori sempai was in high school. I assumed she was an adult employee.

UPDATE: Eps 15 and 16 (Big Spider) make a pretty interesting self-contained story. Mikoto comes off as just a bit clueless. Scratch that, she comes off as a whole lot clueless. Saten seems to understand better, but Mikoto isn't listening. I wonder if this is foreshadowing.

So they're up against a gang who are armed with handguns. Kuroko seems impressively capable in such a situation. It leaves open the question of whether Mikoto can survive being shot at; I suppose it depends on whether there are iron sands handy, doesn't it? (Or building debris with rebar in it.) The two of them together are a two-girl army. Airborne, even, considering how fast Kuroko can deploy the two of them to where they're needed.

UPDATE: Ep 17 seems to be a total loss. The only nice thing I can say about Tessou is that she jiggled nicely in the first OP, but she doesn't even do that in this episode.

But, Komoe says, "Every day is fun for me, because there are various kinds of students in this city. Even though one of those 'various students' is a troublemaker that blew off my roof."

That's a reference to ep 6 of Index, which I guess means Touma

UPDATE: Ep 17 seems to be about cameos. We get an appearance by Index, and then get to meet Haruue.

UPDATE: Well, except for establishing the cross-link to events in Index, and introducing Haruue, it really seems as if this episode added nothing to the series.

1 Episode 17 was a total loss.

As for Konori-sempai, I'll have to go back and rewatch, but I think you're right; wasn't that a school uniform on the wall? I think I zoned out on that one because it didn't match my concept of her as an adult employee.

The OP, so far, appears to be a case of terribly false advertising; to watch it, you'd think Mikoto and Kuroko were in a war zone.  A couple of the scenes suggested that Mikoto figures out how to fly, as long as she's in close proximity to metal.  Another suggests that Kuroko can add or subtract momentum when she teleports. In fact, now that I think of it, we see her do that in the first episode, fighting one of the bank robbers.

2 What convinced me of that was a scene where Konori and her roommate are together and they're wearing exactly the same clothes. And the dialogue makes clear that the roommate is not part of Judgement, so it isn't a work uniform.
