I just downloaded the raw of the final episode of Houkago no Pleiades and I still don't understand what's going on. I sure hope the sub clears things up, but I'm not holding out much hope on that.

As always in this series they're doing nerd jokes about modern astrophysics. This time, the last engine part they're chasing fell into a Black Hole.

So they went in after it. Somehow they seem to have the idea that things are completely black once you're inside the event horizon, which isn't likely. Assuming you could survive that close to an immense gravitational source (which also isn't likely; tidal effects would tear you apart) things would look very distorted but there would be plenty of light.

So stop asking questions and look at the boobies, right? Except that this isn't a fan service show, so they don't even have that excuse.

It's almost like Gainax (the new Gainax, back from the dead) is trying to use this show to reestablish their reputation for being utterly strange.

I'm not sure this qualifies as a true "Gainax Ending" -- those tend to make me think of violence towards the studio -- but it certainly is bizarre. And it isn't happy for everyone. It may not be 100% happy for any of them, but it's totally unhappy for at least one.

And what in hell is that thing? Looks like the apocalypse, to me. No way Earth can survive a body that large, that close!
