Twintails -- ep 7

YES! Red half-rim glasses FTW!

This show keeps getting stranger and stranger, which is really saying something considering how strange it was to start with. We're really delving the fetishes now.

Erina, Tail Yellow, turns out to be a very repressed, and bizarre, person. She's revealed as being a masochist in this episode, for instance and she wants Souji to hit her. Which, naturally, he refuses to really do. She's started calling him goushujin-sama.

Her costume gives her big breasts (which she ordinarily doesn't have) and it makes her exhibitionistic, yet another fetish. At the rate they're using them up, they're going to run out of fetishes, I tell you. (This time we also got a school swimsuit fetish, a braid fetish and a lip fetish.)

Dark Grasper, our penultimate Big Boss, seems to have been a fangirl of Toaru on her home world, and her suit, Glasses Gear, was created so that she could stand beside Tail Red (Toaru). She doesn't realize that the current Tail Red isn't the original, so their conversation was surreal. ("What happened to your big, beautiful breasts?")

But if glasses are not the ultimate fetish to challenge the twintail fetish, what might be? The only thing I can come up with is Catgirls! We'll have to defeat Dark Grasper first, before the ultimate Big Boss shows up, I imagine so it'll be a few episodes.

UPDATE: If it isn't catgirls, then it's got to be blue-striped panties.

1 This is too confusing. IIRC, Twirl said previously that she was Blue, not Red. I must be misremembering.

I dunno. Asking for consistency from a show like this is insane.

3 I'm not sure she said she was Blue.  I'd have to go back to ep 4 to check.
Still, this series is hilarious.  I actually fell out of my chair laughing at the Ero Hon part.  I was already on the verge of breaking before we got there, but that just pushed it over the top.  It was nice.

4 By the way, am I the only one who thinks that Toaru is a lesbian masochist, and that she baits the Childhood Friend deliberately in order to get beaten up?

5 Considering the moves she tried to put on Souji when others weren't around, I think it'd be "bisexual masochist".

6 Good point.

7 Twirl mentioned once how her policy is to deny Aika. Is seems pretty clear to me that she mostly acts out of rivalry. It does not preclude her being an M in addition.

8 There's one thing lacking: for Dark Grasper to go to the same school with the Twintail heroes.

9 I wouldn't be surprised if that happens.

10 I have not seen this show, but have a question about the big bad's name. Given the fetish emphasis, could "Dark Grasper" be translated as "Dark Groper" instead? Seems like it would fit with the theme.

It isn't a translation; the show is using the English words "Dark Grasper" for her name. (Also, she isn't the ultimate big bad; she's one step down from there.)

12 "At the rate they're using them up, they're going to run out of fetishes, I tell you."

Sadly, I don't think that's possible.

On the other hand, it is possible to run out of fetishes that any semi-sane person would want to see.  (Runs off to find the mental bleach...)

It's kind of a correlary of Rule 34: "There is porn of it. No exceptions".

Rule 34 bis: "It's someone's fetish. No exceptions."

14 Fighting a misidentified opponent is a trope that was done before, see Viral in Gurren-Lagann. Another thing they can do is "beat people up to make friends", a-la Nanoha.

That one's "Defeat means Friendship". Nanoha is the classic example of that, and I saw a cartoon one time of all the people who she had "befriended", which ended with Vivio crowing about being befriended the most, "5 simultaneous Starlight Breakers!"

But that's far from the only case. In the recent past I can think of Hyuga in Arpeggio of Blue Steel, who fell in love with Iona just after Iona torpedoed Hyuga.
