Soul Eater NOT -- ep 12

/images/07449.jpg

And done. And it was a good ending. I thought for a while that it was going to be Zombie-Sid that actually killed Shaula, but I suppose in some ways that would have been less satisfying than what they did give us.

Shaula sics Meme on Anya and Tsugumi and flies away to cause trouble elsewhere. Meme has a blade attached to her right arm and came up with a chainsaw somewhere.

Tsugumi has the potion that's supposed to cure Meme, so she puts it in her mouth. Anya manages to pin Meme, and Tsugumi gives her the kiss-of-life.

It doesn't completely work. She's crying and screaming but she's also still fighting, kind of half-assed. She stabs Tsugumi in the shoulder, but Tsugumi starts singing to her.

And they end up in Soul Resonance, and Tsugumi is able to break the chains that are still holding Meme.

So what are we going to do now? Meme says she can still feel Shaula, and starts crying while talking about all the evil things that Shaula has in mind. Then Tsugumi announces she's made her decision about a partner.

She chooses the Tenchi Solution. But it's not indecisiveness. Because she managed Soul Resonance with both of them, she thinks they can do a three-way and gain great power, some day when they're all much more mature.

Meme thinks she might be able to trace Shaula, so off they go. Tsugumi is still a bit new to this flying thing, and has some trouble initially with two passengers. Shaula sees them coming and flies up to attack.

So the battle is on.

And now it's time for that three-way. And it works.

/images/07450.jpg

Tsugumi now has a edge. She also constantly changes during the fight; when Anya was thrusting, Tsugumi's axe blade was smaller and more balanced and when Meme was swinging, the axe blade was larger and heavier.

And for their final attack, Tsugumi really becomes a super-saiyajin. It works, and Shaula is killed.

And then we get an epilogue, which fortunately wasn't sickly sweet or too long.

All in all it was a very satisfying ending, even if a bit contrived. The idea of two fighters passing a single weapon back and forth still doesn't quite make sense to me, but that's what they were doing, and if they can make it work (and it helps that both Anya and Meme are masters of empty-hand fighting) then why not?

1 Tsugumi's choice was kind of a cop out, but at the least it helps explain why a NOT (or a few NOTs) was able to defeat the pinnacle of strong enemies - a Witch.

With only a rudimentary knowledge of the first series I did not catch until the end of the end (the epilogue) a point easily identifiable to fans: If I had cared enough to follow it, I would have known at least Liz and Patty's role at the start. It made for a nice bit of discovery at the end. Sometimes ignorance is truly bliss.

A couple of comments: Tsubaki sure is the babe!

/images/07452.jpg

I wonder if she gives Maka "A-cup angst"?

Also, is this guy a reference to the other series?

3 Why yes, yes she is.

From what little I have seen, Tsubaki seems to have the most variety of weapon configurations. She also has the patience to deal with the most undeservedly egotistical character in the series.

4 Tsubaki sure is the babe!

Always has been.

Reason I was wondering about that dweeb is that he seems to be a weapon:

And I was wondering what the story was on him.
