Red half-rim glasses watch -- Isuca

/images/08631.jpg

Her name is Nadeshiko and she's a teacher, among other things. I downloaded this series just now, for the hell of it, and I've watched 4 episodes already. It seemed like a good candidate for plundering, and I think it'll be worth finishing. It's only 10 episodes anyway, and watching it isn't really painful.

But it sure is cheesy. No one will claim this one is high art. Much more, including lots of NSFW, below the fold.

18 seconds into the first episode we get this. It ain't what it seems, though. She is a demon and wants to consume Our Hero. She eventually transforms into a giant centipede. I suppose it would be horror if it weren't so stupid. Generally the "scary" parts of this show aren't very scary.

Anyway, a quick precis of the setup: Our Hero is Shinichirou, who needs a job. He happens to be a clean freak and he's also a good cook, so via contrived means he ends up being hired to be housekeeper for Sakuya, a blonde tsundere who was probably intended to be voiced by Kugimiya only I bet they couldn't get her. (She must be dreadfully tired of doing flat-chested tsunderes.)

Sakuya is the provisional head of the Shimazu clan, who have been demon hunters since the 14th century. She's the 37th head. But she might not remain so; a final decision on her will come after she graduates from high school. The competition is her cousin, Suseri, a practitioner of Miko Magic. (Every show is improved by Miko Magic, but this one less so than many.)

Suseri is rather deadpan. I don't know if it's fair to call her "emotionless" but she doesn't really show much in the way of emotion even when she's being attacked.

In the first episode, Our Hero rescues a cat girl that Sakuya is trying to kill. She's one of the demons. Our Hero turns out to be a little bit more than just an average high school student, though he didn't know it. During one of the battles he "accidentally" kisses Sakuya, and her power goes through the roof. He also accidentally kisses the cat girl, and gets a view of her memory, part of which was her "true name". If you are the first to say a demon's true name, then it belongs to you, and that's what happened with the cat girl.

As a demon, in order to remain on this plane of existence, she needs to drain life force from someone periodically. She eventually does that from Our Hero. Ordinarly it would take someone months to regain their vigor, but Our Hero is back to normal in hours. Nadeshiko does some tests and determines that he has tremendous reserves of life force, which he can give to someone else if he kisses her.

So here's a nice warm dinner scene. Why Tamako is eating from a dish on the floor is anyone's guess.

Suseri learns about Our Hero's power reserve and decides to take him from Sakuya. If Sakuya is small-breasted, Suseri is top heavy.

Which they make sure we know about, when she joins Our Hero in the bath to "wash his back".

The MCSA is strong in this one, with the usual victim being Sakuya. (It's Tamako once, though, and I assume Suseri will get her chance before the show is over.)

To be fair, Sakuya isn't outright pettanko. By Japanese standards she's actually fairy normal. Not by anime standards, though, and she suffers from classic "A-cup Angst".

As might be expected, there are the usual tentacle attacks in this show, and the camera angles are... not subtle.

In terms of plunder it hasn't been as fruitful as many shows, if for no other reason because it's too ecchi, but I bet I'll come out with 40 candidates, give or take.

And though it's cheesy, it's been fun, too. But one strange thing: The version I downloaded was [AnimeRG] and the audio for the second episode was totally fouled up. It doesn't match the video or the subtitles, which do track each other. I suspect when they assembled the MKV files, they got the wrong audio for this one, and their QC didn't spot the error. (It's a blatant error and leads me to suspect they don't have QC.) It came out a week ago, and they haven't posted a fix yet.

End of ep 6, and surprisingly this show just took a huge step upwards in quality of story telling. I'm hooked now; if it keeps going like this it really will be top drawer.

By the way, Hobbes has nothing on Tamako when it comes to greeting glomps:

Finished, and it wasn't bad. It was worth three hours, anyway. I guess I'd recommend it, as long as you don't have high expectations.
