Madan no Ou to Vanadis -- ep 3

And so we get the great battle for Alsace. And it wasn't just "everyone charge into a melee and beat up the other side." There were actual tactics, and ruses, and it was genuinely interesting to watch the progress of the battle.

No amount of material superiority can compensate for a commander who is a blithering idiot and a coward. So when he abandoned his force and fled, the bastard got what was coming to him.

Tigre's performance in the battle was superb, and Elen and all her men know it.

His deal with Elen was that if she used her army on his behalf to defend Alsace, that it would become hers. Presumably that includes Tigre himself, who is the noble of Alsace. So up until now he's been a prisoner but I think this means he just changed sides officially and is now her subordinate.

One of the highlights of the battle was Elen taking on a brass dragon all by herself. No one can ever accuse her of cowardice, folks.

We just began a huge war, too. With Zion dead, surely his father will want revenge. I think Elen knew it might come to this, and Thenardier was on her list of targets anyway, so I don't think she's going to mind. Plus there's value in picking up a minion as fine as Tigre. He can't provide a lot of men-at-arms (Alsace is not a very big territory), but he himself is very valuable. (Not to mention cute.) And he fights like an angry buzzsaw.

They're not emphasizing the harem aspect of the show a lot, and that's fine with me. There are definitely romantic vibes in the air, and competition, but it isn't taking over the show. Clearly the show is about the relationship between Elen and Tigre, but it's also a complicated one, not just beautiful woman and handsome man. There's a lot more going on between them, including politics.

Tigre is an awesome character.

1 Looks like you've found a lot more shows to watch this season than you thought possible.

Three shows, but I'm not sure that Amagi Brilliant Park is going to turn out to be good. I have no doubts about Madan no Ou to Vanadis, though, nor about Twintails.

And getting two shows is still above my average.
