Just kind of wondering

Why does this picture show an American plane painted in Japanese colors? That wing configuration is very distinctive. Indeed so far as I know it's unique.

What it isn't is a A6M Zero, which is what the movie is supposed to be about.

UPDATE: Maybe not so unique. It could be an F4U, but it could also be a Stuka. It isn't a Zero, however.

It definitely is not the F4U, given the movie the website is for.  Ju 87, assuming the picture is correct, with both bent wings and fix undercarriage.

2 What it is is the Mitsubishi Ka-14, the prototype design for what became the A5M "Claude".  That is, of course, the poster for The Wind Rises, the Studio Ghibli movie based on the life of Jiro Horikoshi, the designer of the Ka-14, A5M... and the A6M Zero.

Lovely film, highly recommended.

3 Fair enough. I stand corrected.

For what?  You said it wasn't a Zero, and you were absolutely right, it's not!  It's the obscure prototype of the relatively obscure fighter that preceded the Zero.

5 I said it was American.
