Fairy Tail -- Celestial Mages FTW!

Fairy Tail is getting stranger and stranger. Spoilers below the fold.

Like having Lucy, Yukino, and Hisui do an attack which MCSA'ed themselves. The current story in the anime (which wasn't in the manga) is getting strange -- and it may introduce changes in canon which are incompatible with the manga. That could be troublesome.

But if anything the manga is even more strange. In chapter 416, the Tartaros arc came to an end. Among other consequences, the Fairy Tail guild hall got trashed. (Again. This is about the fourth time.) Worse, the city of Magnolia got trashed. Likely the damage is bad enough so that it won't be rebuilt.

Makarov decided to dissolve the Fairy Tail guild, and everyone seems to be going their separate directions. Natsu has his heart set on killing Acnologia, and so he and Happy went up to their house and dug out their life savings, some 11 million jewel. (A "jewel" is a unit of currency with a value approximately the same as a yen.) He left Lucy a letter telling her that he and Happy were going to spend a year training, and would see her afterwards. And the rest of the members of team Natsu are traumatized and don't seem to be staying together either, with the possible exception of Wendy.

It makes me worry: Lucy has been close to the edge financially for a long time. There's no indication she has any savings, and now how will she find work? She might have to join another guild.

There are several guilds who I suspect would be willing to take her. She is, after all, not a waste of time as a mage. She isn't S-class and doesn't pretend to be, but she's a good team member -- not to mention being stunningly beautiful. So I suspect any of Lamia Scale, Mermaid Heel, Blue Pegasus, and Sabertooth would take her in -- but I think they'd all expect her to delete her Fairy Tail mark and adopt the one of the new guild -- and I suspect she isn't going to be willing to do that.

So is she going to have to find non-mage work? Be a waitress at a high-class restaurant, for instance? That would sure be a step down in life. It can't be in Magnolia, because Magnolia no longer exists.

A couple of those guilds might be willing to grant her charity and let her use their job board without actually joining the guild. I dunno; the next chapter is going to be very important.

This week felt like a punch in the gut.

UPDATE: It wasn't all bad news for everyone. Sting and Rogue took Minerva back to Sabertooth, and she was welcomed by everyone, which reduced her to tears.

Minerva has always had a dark streak, sometimes more than just a streak. In this arc when she was first appeared she had been changed into a demon by the bad guys, and had fully embraced their cause.

But I think that when the Celestial Spirit King did his Galaxia Blade attack, it drove all the darkness out of her (as well as doing a whole lot of other stuff). After that, she wasn't evil any more, and still isn't.
