Circle of choice

Boy, it's tough to find good help these days, you know? Tantei Opera Milky Holmes and Soredemo Machi wa Mawatteiru both ran yesterday and raws from both hit the torrents last night, but no fansub of either is out yet. I wonder if no one decided to do them? (No suggestions, please!)

Last Sunday was the first episode of Hyakka Ryouran Samurai Girls, of which the first ep also ran about three weeks ago. By this point I have seen, and downloaded, five different versions of it.

The big problem here is that it's being broadcast on Animation Network -- which shouldn't be a problem; it's something for which we should be glad. Contemporary broadcast in North America! We're no longer second class citizens. Or maybe we've graduated from third class to second class.

Anyway, the American broadcast was hard-subbed, 480p, and that's what I got in the first fansub I downloaded. 480p hardsub is pretty much worthless as far as I'm concerned. So is there a circle out there doing anything worth watching? If not their own translation, then a stolen one added to a 720p Japanese raw? Let's see:

Crunchysubs: 720p hardsub. Anime Network watermark. Looks like an upscale. Quality is poor.

Himatsubushi: 720p softsub. Superb quality. But it looks like it's the preview, so will they remain as good looking?

Hiryuu: 720p softsub. Tokyo MX watermark. Quality is excellent.

HorribleSubs: 720p hardsub. Anime Network watermark. Looks like another upscale.

Ryuumaru: 480p softsub. I don't see any watermark, so I can't tell where it's from, but I don't want to watch 480p if a larger version is available.

So it looks like Hiryuu is the choice for this show. Here's hoping they stay with it.

And I'll keep monitoring the torrent announcement sites, hoping to find those two new shows. (No suggestions, please.) And also To Aru Majjutsu no Index 2.

UPDATE: Strange. Index is out now, but still no sign of the other two. Maybe it's true that no one picked them up.

UPDATE: Well, this isn't good. AniDB says that no one is doing Tantei Opera Milky Holmes and no one is doing Soredemo Machi wa Mawatteiru. Maybe in a few days someone will notice the vacancy and step in.

UPDATE: I just saw Aroduc's post about Index and I just decided I was going to skip that series.

1 http://www.ggkthx.org/ GG is doing Soredemo Machi wa Mawatteiru.  However, they're going to a New York convention, and will be out of town for a couple of days, coupled with other disaster.  But someone is doing it.  The review for it isn't stellar, but I can use another comedy show for my Fall season.  Thus far, what I'm watching this fall in terms of comedy are:

The World God Only Knows.  The manga is excellent.
My Sister Can't be This Cute.  (despite the subject matter, it's the sister that's addicted to SisCon porn games)
And Soredemo Machi wa Mawatteiru (still waiting for someone to sub it).

2 I don't hold out very high hopes for Soredemo. The other one, however, could be pretty cool. I had thought it was going to be a little girl's show, but evidently it's seinen.

3 Think you got problems?  The live-action Kimi ni Todoke started airing two weeks ago and I still haven't even found any raws, much less subbed eps.

Then again you seem to have better connections than I do....

I know your pain, but fear not, the second season of Kimi no Todoke anime has been greenlighted and should land next year.  (Yes, I'm interested in how they handle live action).  (Just hopped onto D-Addict, and yep, nothing, what are they doing?)

7 BIGFIRE YOU HAVE MADE MY DAY!!!!

That's awesome!

...sorry, Steven, about the hijack.  We now return this thread to its regularly scheduled content.

8 Is that what you really think of me?

9 Well, no, but you have to admit "panties and cleavage" is more to your liking than "angst angst angst spam and angst", right?

10 Yay!  More Kimi ni Todoke!

Not that I have time to watch anything at the moment.

11 FWIW, I just watched Index II, ep01, and

I'd really be surprised if that one moment in the show kept you from watching it, and I wasn't even a fan of Index... Railgun, yes, but not the original series.

Not suggesting you watch it you understand (I'm probably not going to, after all, so how could I recommend it?), but it just surprises me that you wouldn't.

Ubu told me about that, too. I think I'll collect this series, but not watch it until an arc is complete.
